Upadhyaya Elaine Yuen, PhD. Elaine is a senior teacher and chaplain in the Shambhala tradition, and met Chogyam Trungpa, her root teacher, in 1971. She has been a meditation instructor and teacher for over 40 years. She received her chaplaincy training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is ordained as Upadhyaya (Buddhist minister) within the Shambhala Buddhist community.
Currently residing in Philadelphia, she teaches workshops and intensives nationally and internationally. As a professor at Naropa University, she taught courses on pastoral caregiving (chaplaincy), contemplative education and Buddhist studies. A devoted Shambhalian, Elaine continues to be deeply interested in how we shape our social interactions with caring and authentic presence.
