Dr. Kimani Borland is a naturopathic physician from Kingston, Jamaica, now practicing in Medford, Oregon. Raised within the cultural and spiritual tradition of Rastafari, yoga eventually become her spiritual home. With an undergraduate degree in Human Biology and International Public Health from Stanford University, Dr. Kimani has been exposed to a diverse range of cultural approaches to health around the world. After one year of medical school in Jamaica and two yoga teacher training courses, it became clear to her that a holistic approach to medicine was the only way to foster true healing. She earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in 2018 and practices with a focus on prevention, women’s health, cardiovascular disease, digestive health, counseling and stress management
She holds a keen interest in the scientific basis for the practice of yoga, she worked under the guidance of the director of the Division of Clinical Anatomy at Stanford Medical School to study the mechanisms through which yoga improves the symptoms and progression of musculoskeletal disorders.
Dr. Kimani deepened her yoga practice by completing two separate 200 hour yoga teacher trainings: Vinyasa Flow Yoga RYT200, Yoga Alliance in 2011 and 200 hour Ancient Egyptian Yoga through the Black Genius Kemetic Yoga Certification in 2012. Since her trainings, she has taught at numerous yoga studios and conferences throughout the United States and the Caribbean. With this diverse background and training, her teaching style has evolved into a unique fusion of Vinyasa flow and Kemetic Yoga, inviting an engaging and powerful journey on the mat.
